Women Who Care Giving Circle

The Women Who Care Giving Circle was the first giving circle established by Jefferson County Community Foundation. Starting in 2008 with 13 women, the mission of this giving circle was clear: they wanted to explore the needs of this community and invest in nonprofit organizations for a systemic and sustainable change. Each member contributes $1000 per year for 3 years, with a grant of $13,000 awarded per year.

2008 Grant Award: Department of Health Visiting Nurses Program for their 'Family Support Programs Assessment and Analysis Outcomes Project’

2009 Grant Award: Jumping Mouse Children's Center for their 'Parent Education and Support Program'

What is a giving circle?

A Giving Circle is a pooled fund, generally hosted or sponsored by a charitable organization such as a community foundation, through which members of the circle make grants together. Giving Circles are typically organized around a particular issue or area of interest. They offer members a chance to participate in the grantmaking process. The process, combined with the increased impact of pooled charitable dollars, has strong appeal for many donors. Giving Circles are considered active philanthropy and can often make a greater impact by leveraging the dollars and influencing others.
