Those of you attended Laurie's first Board Development Workshop in January realize why JCCF is so happy to have her back for Part II of our Board Development Workshop. If you missed the first one, please don't pass up the opportunity to attend this workshop!

In the second part of her workshop on Board Development, Laurie Wolf will go into more depth on the issues facing nonprofit boards today and "on the ground" strategies for dealing with them.

In this session Laurie will review the four key components of a sustainable organization with a focus on ways boards can use all the resources at their disposal to create and maintain a viable nonprofit. She will cover strategies to:

• Build a strong and appropriate board/staff partnership
• Effectively incorporate the board into fundraising
• Help board members "make the ask" in a way that is

  comfortable and productive for them
• Cultivate relationships among key stakeholders

This workshop will include breaks for questions and activities that reinforce new concepts.

Our guest presenter, Laurie Wolf, has worked in the nonprofit sector for 18 years. As Vice President of The Foraker Group in Anchorage, AK, Laurie co-creates and provides both community-wide and one-on-one training for boards and staff in the areas of board service, strategic planning, collaboration and resource development. In the past four years, Laurie has facilitated over 50 strategic planning sessions and has worked with more than 5,000 board and staff of Alaska nonprofits. Additionally, she coordinates all educational opportunities that are provided by The Foraker Group and leads the various activities related to creating a culture of philanthropy in Alaska. Laurie holds a B.A. in English from Scripps College, an executive master's degree in Not-for-Profit Leadership from Seattle University and is one of 20 Certified Fund Raising Executives in Alaska. She has served on a variety of boards and worked as a volunteer in arts, environmental and human services organizations. In 2005, Laurie was named one of Alaska's Top 40 Under 40 by the Chamber of Commerce, and was named Outstanding Professional in Philanthropy in 2006 by the statewide Association of Fundraising Professionals.

This workshop is limited to 24 participants and must be paid in advance.
